During July and August, come fish the bountiful Main River with
Heritage River Outfitters!
Fresh Atlantic salmon enter Main River from the Ocean and travel upstream to the
mountainous areas of the interior of the Northwestern Peninsula of Newfoundland.
Heritage River Outfitters has access to many miles of the River including some of the best
salmon pools to be found anywhere in North America.
The best run of fresh spawning fish begins in mid-July and continues through
August. To reach these untouched pristine waters, fishermen are flown via float plane from
Deer Lake to a base camp in the Taylor Brook Moose Management Area.
After arrival at the base camp, a short hike across glaciated table top mountains
will put you in the perfect place to catch the number one trophy game fish - the Atlantic
salmon.
Prices vary each year due to constantly increasing float plane airfare. A deposit
to ensure your reservation is required by May 15th. Please
note that only fly fishing is permitted and fishermen are encouraged to bring a wide
assortment of wet and dry flies. For example thunder & Lightening, Silver Grey, Blue
Charm, Green Islanders, Muddlers, Jock Scott, and Black Gnat to mention a few. Also, 8 1/2
to 10' rods are recommended and a 7-9 weight fly line.
